DAY 2: CITY TIME x FASHION TIME
After some much needed rest, we get our formal introduction to the bustling city of Accra, as we embark on an Accra City Tour. Our city tour will take us to famous landmarks where we’ll learn about the historical beginnings of Ghana as an independent country. We will stop by the W. E. B. DuBois Center, which serves as a memorial place and research center. We will also visit Independence Square and view the enclosed flame of African liberation, which was lit by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president in 1961. We continue the short distance to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s founder. After exploring the city, we will have a custom clothing experience where we connect with a local Ghanaian tailor and fashion expert. She will offer design consultation for custom orders, textile sourcing, fittings and have items available for purchase. (Maybe you’ll find the perfect fit for The Take Off With Tiff Welcome!)
Meals Provided: Breakfast
DAY 3: TOWT WELCOME DINNER
The day is yours to spend at your leisure, but the evening belongs to us. Tonight we get dressed up for our TOWT Welcome Dinner, where we’ll share an intimate meal as a group at one of Accra's premiere restaurants.
Afterwards, those of us who can still hang will hit the town in search of the infamous Ghana party vibes we've heard so much about!
Meals Provided: Breakfast and Dinner
DAY 4: CULTURE, CULTURE, CULTURE
What better way to become immersed in a country's culture than through their food?
After our cooking class, we'll do our part to give back to the Ghanian community, as we embark on a volunteering assignment. (More details provided prior to the trip)
DAY 4: SANKOFA - TO RETURN AND GET IT
This journey marks our official return home to where they said we’d never return. We’ll celebrate with a transformative visit to Cape Coast Castle and Kakum National Park.
This part of the trip will be powerful and emotional for many. Our expert guide will show us around the ‘castles’ sharing crucial stories of our ancestral past. As we walk through the Male and Female dungeons and witness the cramped living conditions, you will gain a powerful understanding of the atrocities committed against our ancestors. This visit culminates with the hauntingly infamous “Door of No Return,” which enslaved Africans passed through before being shipped to the New World.
Although this journey can be difficult, it is an essential step in reconnecting with our past and honoring our ancestors.
Afterwards you will visit Kakum National Park, which has one of Africa’s famous rainforest canopy walkways. This canopy walkway is sure to be one of the highlights of your time in Ghana. Prepare to take a deep breath as you walk the suspended bridge and marvel at the breathtaking views that stretch for miles across the rainforest. (Optional)
Meals Provided: Breakfast and Lunch
DAY 5: PACE 👏🏾YOUR 👏🏾SELF!!
Sunday in Ghana is known for its lively beach parties, and we'll be joining in on the fun! Spend the day soaking up the sun, feeling the sand between your toes and listening to the sounds of the ocean waves. This is a perfect opportunity to experience the vibrant Ghanaian beach culture with music, delicious food and refreshing drinks. Try not to party too hard at the beach, because we have a long night of partying ahead of us!
Tonight, as the New Year begins and the old one ends, we’ll ring it in VIP style at one of Accra’s premier night clubs.
Meals Provided: Breakfast
DAY 6: DO YOU! (RECOUP, RECOVER, WHOOSA, DO WHATEVER YOU WANT)
Today is an entirely free day to explore Ghana! Now that you’ve gotten your feet wet in Accra, today’s the perfect opportunity to discover some of the things that make the city so great. Get to know some of your new TOWT travel companions, hit up a restaurant in Osu, grab a drink at a rooftop bar, pop into one of the markets, or get your hair braided, sis! The choice is yours….DO YOU!
Meals Provided: Breakfast
DAY 7: SPLISH SPLASH!
Today we hit the water to turn up one last time! Because what’s a TOWT trip without turning up on a boat? (More details provided as we get closer to the trip dates). Just make sure your bathing suit and shades are on point!
Meals Provided: Breakfast
Day 8: THROW IT IN THE BAG
After a leisurely morning, we’ll head out to do some souvenir shopping. Your day begins with a visit to the Makola Market which is the biggest open market in Accra. (Be prepared to test out your bargaining skills!). This fascinating market has been divided into various sections to make shopping easy for buyers. You will have the chance to walk through this unusually busy market and shop for some of Accra’s most authentic items: including crafts, carvings, authentic African Art, and exquisite fabrics. Be mindful of your luggage capacity.
After the chaos at the Makola Market, we will return to the hotel to drop off all our purchases.
The rest of the day is yours to explore the city as you please.
Meals Provided: Breakfast
DAY 9: IT'S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE
