Arrive in Joburg! You’ll be picked up from JNB Airport after your arrival into the city and taken to your hotel accommodations in one of Joburg’s premier neighborhoods. After you get settled into your hotel room, if you’re up to it - we’ll introduce you to the rest of the TOWT crew and we’ll all head out for a bite to eat at a traditional South African Braai (BBQ).
DAY 2: SA VIBES!
We start off our exploration of Joburg by hitting the streets of Maboneng, which means "Place of Light" - Joburg’s premier cultural enclave, to immerse ourselves within this vibrant pocket of the city. During this walking tour we’ll discover why Johannesburg's artistic hub is recognized worldwide as a booming creative center. We’ll see some of the best street art from around the world and even meet some of the artists themselves!
Afterwards, we head to the heartbeat of Braamfontein, The Playground Market (formerly The Neighbourgoods Market) for some South African vibes, artisanal food, crafted drinks, emerging streetwear designers, music and did we mention vibes?!
Later that night we’ll keep the vibes going as we explore Joburg’s lively and dynamic nightlife.
DAY 3: TOWT WELCOME DINNER
Today we take a trip through time and learn about some of the tougher times that South Africa endured, as we visit the renowned Apartheid Museum. The Apartheid Museum illustrates the rise and fall of South Africa’s era of segregation and oppression.
The afternoon is yours to do as you wish, but the night is ours! Tonight we get dressed up for our TOWT Welcome Dinner, where we’ll feast on a Pan-African meal crafted by one of Joburg’s top chefs!
DAY 4: SOWETO
The best way to get to know a destination is by gaining a bit of its history. Today, we’ll be visiting Soweto, a township that gives you a deep dive into South Africa’s roots. We’ll stop by Nelson Mandela’s home, stroll down the popular Vilikazi St. and take a scenic bike ride through Orlando, a community within the Soweto township. For the adventurous traveler, you’ll get a chance to prove yourself by bungee jumping from the city’s famous Orlando Towers (optional – to be paid directly onsite)!** (Non-biking tour option also available)
After our history tour, we’ll do our part to give back to the South African community, as we embark on a volunteering assignment (more details provided prior to trip)
The rest of the day is yours to explore the city as you please.
DAY 5: UP, UP AND AWAY!
Today kicks off bright and early as we head out of Joburg to become one with nature. Just a short distance outside of the city limits, we'll take you on a Safari Hot Air Balloon Ride that will take your breath away. The Hot Air Balloon will fly over several game reserves in the scenic Cradle of Humankind Area, giving us the opportunity to view local wildlife - including four of the “Big Five”. We'll have breakfast afterwards and then head back into the city.
After resting up from our early morning adventures, we'll hit the town later that evening to check out some live jazz music at one of Joburg’s premier Jazz Clubs.
DAY 6: JOBURG & CHILL
Now that you’ve got your feet wet in Joburg, today’s the perfect opportunity to discover some of the things that make the city so great. Get to know your new travel companions, check out that cool spot your friends back home recommended, stop by Braamfontein, shop for some vintage finds in Melville, pick up some art from the African craft market in Rosebank, or hang out at our hotel. Today is your day to do as you please.
But please don’t stay out too late – we have an early flight in the morning to continue our adventures in Cape Town!

After a quick flight from Johannesburg, we’ll arrive in Cape Town and make our way to our accommodations. After you get settled, we’ll start our day in Cape Town by hopping on a ferry for a visit to Robben Island, where we'll explore the historic prison where Nelson Mandela was confined. On a guided tour of the island we’ll learn some more about South Africa's history of Apartheid and about life in the prison from former prisoners.
Afterwards we’ll explore the V&A Waterfront. One of Africa’s most visited cultural and historical hubs. Set on the edge of a natural, historic working harbor with the iconic Table Mountain as its backdrop.
Day 8: ADVENTURE AWAITS!
Time to get down and dirty! We take it to the Sand Dunes and explore our adventurous sides as we experience the exhilarating fun of Sandboarding** down the Atlantis Dunes just outside of Cape Town, up the beautiful West Coast of South Africa.
**THIS ACTIVITY IS OPTIONAL AND WILL REQUIRE AN ADD-ON FEE OF $95USD.
After all the adventure, we head to Camp’s Bay where you have the options to grab a bite to eat or relax at the beach.
We round out the evening by taking in one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Africa - Table Mountain. We’ll make our way up to the top of the mountain via aerial cableway, in hopes to catch a glimpse of the sunsetting (weather permitting).
The night is young! Next, we check out one of Cape Towns emerging hot spots for some Ampiano vibes and cocktails!
DAY 9: THE WINE DOWN!
Today, we’ll head out to the lush wine lands and visit a couple of vineyards for some delectable wine tasting. We’ll stay for a perfectly paired meal and head back into the city afterwards.
